Business Competencies

At Mays Business School, they have Identified seven different Business Competencies that they strive to influence each graduate of the program to carry them for the rest of their lives. Below are the 7 Competencies and a brief description of each.

Communication: Every aspect of a business requires communication. Clear communication between everyone working at the company is supposed to understand the importance of this competency. there are times where different branches in the same company will have to work together and clear communication will help complete the task more efficiently

Leadership: The leader of a business is responsible for motivating and uniting their colleagues. Other than just motivation, the leader is supposed to create an atmosphere where everyone is influenced by the enthusiasm you have when you step up and lead.

Problem Solving: when it comes to problem-solving, critical thinking is an essential skill needed to be successful in the business world. Understanding the effects an action has on the aspects of a business and how to problem solve is important.

Managing: The first thing that comes to mind when many people think of management is managing people. However, there is much more to management. Well-run businesses have to manage inventory, work hours, revenue and profit margins, and their employees.

Creating Opportunities: The driving force of a business is the new ideas that are produced so they can get ahead against their competitors. An environment that allows employees to be more innovative will improve the business and explore all the possibilities.

Collaboration: This skill is essential to learn because every day you will have to interact with other people within the workplace. Being able to have a clear conversation with another person is important to finish a task. On top of that, it will help maintain a professional relationship between colleagues.

Acting Ethical: Within a business, ethics is usually seen as a code of conduct that a company sets to hold the employees accountable. The guide should be fair for all of the employees, as well as easy to understand so there is no chance of a legality issue.
